A Headboard for a Princess

We moved into our new home just a little over a year ago. And I, slowly but surely, started putting finishing touches on different rooms. Because our baby girl was originally going to be our only child, we were in no hurry to upgrade her to a big girl bed. Once we decided on kid number two and purchased our home, we knew it was time for her to give up the toddler bed/crib.

We purchased her a plain twin with no headboard with the hopes of finding one in a thrifting trip. Several trips past and no perfect headboard was discovered. So, I needed a Plan B. Our house is full of creative custom art I’ve either designed or painted. I wanted our daughter to have something girly and unique. This is my inspiration I found on Pinterest. I used acrylic paint to create the flamingo masterpiece. And added a golden glitter crown instead of the floral headpiece.

The painting turned out terrific. It was perfect to hang over her bed as a headboard replacement. But I needed something extra to get it a little 'umph'. I saved some tissue paper flowers from her tea party birthday party. I put too much time and effort in them for them only to be used once. The tissue paper flowers had been hanging in her closet for a year and a half, waiting for a higher purpose.

Here are a couple of the videos I watched from YouTube to create these. Tissue paper flowers are really inexpensive to make. All you need is tissue paper and pipe cleaners.

I arranged the flowers around the painting to give it a more dramatic effect. My husband found a string of pink paper lanterns that perfectly added a little light to the setup. I hung the tissue paper flowers and string lanterns with push pins so I could easily move them as necessary.
