I decorated the Christmas tree at my job. We had no budget for decor, so I decided to use pinecones which are FREE!!! Check out my post on Rustic & Natural Christmas Tree Decor. Plain pinecones are, well, plain. So I needed something to jazz them up.

I work at a church and right before Thanksgiving, the lobbies are decked out in the most beautiful Christmas decor. I work in the Communications department and each year I was unimpressed with our Christmas decor. So I became the self-appointed Chief Officer of the Communications Christmas Tree Commitee. I even dedicated a Pinterest board to the cause. I was informed that the Christmas decor was not in the budget so I was severely limited on supplies. I figured out if I went with a Rustic & Natural theme, I would have to spend little to no money. I picked pinecones and branches from the lawn at work and dug through my crafts supplies at home. Check out my results below.

My daughter just turned 3 and we decided to have a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party. She loves Dr. Seuss and so do we! It's the perfect theme and it is also gender friendly (which my husband loved)! Since her birthday is right before the holidays, we needed to celebrate with a low budget.

I joined a thrifting connect group at my church, The Life Church. I have thoroughly enjoyed the group and I have learned about new thrift stores across the city. I have posted a list of thrift stores in the Memphis metropolitan area that was given to the group. Every week we have a challenge. This week's challenge was creating an outfit under $20. I received raved reviews for my color combo!

I went to a neighborhood yard sale yesterday and found an array of treasures. I found something for each member of my family. Jimi Hendrix, Kiss and Led Zeppelin albums for my vinyl collecting husband and a box of jumbo Legos and a talking telephone for our busy, and super-talkative toddler. Of course, I found plenty of clothing which you probably see in future posts, but my most prized find was this lovely wooden chair that I got for $4.

I have been natural for 3 years and it has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Wearing your hair naturally as an African American woman is a big deal! We are raised in communities and in a society where the ideal standard of beauty is fair skin with long straight hair. And most of us are always trying to attain that goal and damaging our hair in the process. I decided to 'go natural' because I felt that part of me was missing. The new growth on my head was undiscovered territory and I needed to see what it was all about.

I love cute glasses! Especially when they are cheap! Zenni Optical has hundreds of styles for the low! They had a BOGO sale a couple of months ago and I grabbed these cuties for under $30. The item numbers are #820425 (in Tortoiseshell, reg. $12.95) & #487030 (in White, reg. $19.00).
